Comparative Study of the Effectiveness of Vapocoolant Spray Versus EMLA Cream in Reducing Pain During Intravenous Cannulation in the Adult Population

Background: Intravenous cannulation is a prerequisite before any major or minor surgical procedures. Objectives: The rationale of the study was to compare effectiveness eutectic mixtures local anesthetics (EMLA) cream and vapocoolant spray for pain reduction during intravenous (I.V.) cannulation. Methods: This observational prospective cohort done on 140 patients requiring I.V. prior elective procedure who were divided into two groups, including Group E: EMLA (eutectic anesthetics) V: (Ethyl chloride). Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, hemodynamic variables, cost analysis studied between groups. Statistical analyses using Mann-Whitney U test, unpaired t-test, Fisher’s exact chi-square test used identify variation in scores Post hoc at different time points by Bonferroni test. P-value < 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: It observed that groups comparable terms age, sex, American Society Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status. A highly significant difference VAS pain. There also heart rate movement hands No changes other parameters. Vapocoolant more cost-effective compared with an occlusive dressing. Conclusions: better tool cannulation, especially emergency settings.
